Richard Shanahan Inspire Sport Performance
Richard Shanahan is a Dublin based Sport Psychology practitioner.
He is the Performance Psychologist to the Irish boxing team based at the Boxing High Performance Unit in Abbottstown, Co. Dublin.
He has consulted with professional and athletes, teams and coaches from a broad variety of sports, for example, Premier Division League of Ireland soccer, Boxing, Martial Arts, Shooting, Club and Inter-County Gaelic Games, Tennis, Show Jumping, Motocross, Athletics, Golf and Swimming.
Richard completed his Psychology degree at Dublin Business School and holds a Master's degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology from University of Ulster, Jordanstown. He also holds qualifications in Training and Education (NUI Galway), Addiction Studies (NUI Maynooth) and Hypno-therapy (Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy).
He is a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland and the PSI Division of Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology.
Sporting background
Richard started practicing martial arts at an early age and by the time he turned 21 he was a 2nd Dan Black belt running his own club and was a regular member of the Cork Tae Kwon-Do Black belt team.
He is an experienced skydiver, having completed over 800 jumps. He was a member of the Defence Forces Parachute team that won the National Accuracy Championships. He was also a member of the Defence Forces Free-fall Parachute display team .
Richard is an accomplished marksman and has regularly competed at Brigade, Command and All Army level shooting competitions.
