Sport Psychology Services

"I think that everything is possible as long as you put your mind to it and you put the work and time into it. I think your mind really controls everything"    Michael Phelps  (18 time Olympic Gold medalist)

We work with individual athletes, groups, teams, coaches, managers and support staff.
This focuses on 2 main areas:
  1.  Education and Awareness
  2. Applied Work

Education and Awareness

This involves fostering an awareness and understanding of various psychological concepts that can influence performance. Awareness is the first step towards change. This approach helps people to identify areas for change. Crucially it also provides them with an awareness that change is possible and that they can effect their own change. This alone can be very empowering and motivating.

In addition, people are more inclined to utilize elements from the applied work if they understand why they are doing it. For example, an athlete is more inclined to practice mental imagery if they have some understanding of how it works and know the results that others have achieved  using it.

Education and awareness is facilitated through individual consultations, presentations, psychological skills training programmes and workshops.

Applied Work

Applied work involves helping clients apply strategies/tools/techniques in order to enhance performance. This is usually a follow on from the education and awareness element. For example, once people are informed about the power and potential of goal setting, the next step would be to apply it to their own specific goals.

Applied work may involve assistance with:
  • Goal Setting
  • Controlling Self Talk
  • Mental Imagery
  • Mindfulness
  • Pre-Performance Routines
  • Anxiety Control
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Increasing Concentration
